Detailed Description

Generate and return .true. if the input path (whether a file or a directory) exists and .false. otherwise.

This generic functional interface is a simple convenience wrapper around the generic interfaces isFile() and isDir() and returns the short-circuited result of isFile() .or. isDir().
As such, its behavior is fully dictated by these generic interfaces.

Parameters
[in]path: The input scalar, or array of arbitrary rank, of type character of default kind SK representing the path whose existence is to be checked.
[out]iostat: The optional output scalar integer of default kind IK.
  1. If present and no error occurs, it is set to 0 on output.
  2. If present and an error occurs, it is set to a positive non-zero value.
  3. If missing and an error occurs, then the program halts by calling error stop followed by the relevant error message.
(optional.)
[in,out]iomsg: The input/output scalar character of default kind SK containing the error message, if any error occurs.
A length type parameter value of LEN_IOMSG is generally sufficient for iomsg to contain the output error messages.
(optional. It can be present only if the iostat output argument is also present.)
Returns
extant : The output scalar, or array of same rank, shape, and size as the input array-like argument, of type logical of default kind LK.
It is .true. if and only if the input path (whether a file or a directory) exists.
Otherwise, it is .false..
